It holds four AA batteries that power the electronic components of the faucet. It is easily removed and replaced. Remove the crown of the faucet by loosening the hex nut on the underside of the faucet. Then simply lift the battery pack out of the spout to replace the batteries or the pack itself. To open it, push in on the tabs on the sides of the pack. Make sure you install the batteries with the proper polarity, which is located on the cover of the pack. Improper battery polarity won’t harm the faucet, but the faucet will not function unless the polarity is correct. It's a good idea to keep an extra battery pack on hand for a quick change out, or in case the batteries have leaked acid into your existing pack.
